XREFTYPE and PATHTYPE variables

I am trying to use the XREFTYPE and PATHTYPE variable to help solve some nesting and pathing issues we are having.

In essence I am trying to do two things:

  1. Set the default xref type to "Overlay". I seem to be able to do this but when the user does change it manually it remembers this last selection instead of reverting back to the default. Can this be avoided?
  2. Set the path type default to no path. Can this be done in a lisp and not using the registery editor? I have a number of lisps I can use that load already just not sure of the code.

Any help would be great.

The attached lisp does edit the registry but when executed as part of the the startup content folder it should set the default to xref with no path.
