vla-explode creates extra geometry??

I've been developing LISPS for coloring lines, etc. inside of blocks.  A new development is that I need to explode plines inside of blocks...when I do this using vla-explode, I get extra, duplicate single-line entities/geometry AND the original pline.  What on earth is the point of that??  Please see the attached files, there is one long pline that should illustrate what I'm running into.  Thanks for any insight!

BOOOO!! That just sucks.  I guess I'll have to additionally run vla-explode and then overkill to get rid of the plines and redundant geometry.
