SSGET PROBLEM

Anonymous
Not applicable
I would be very appreciative if someone could help me with what I think is
a simple problem. I want to use the SSGET command to select all objects of
a particular name that are inside a window that I select. I know how to
select all objects in the drawing of the correct name but I'm not sure how
to make it work with a window. Do the window coordinates need to be
obtained before the SSGET and then included in the SSGET command or can
they be obtained within the SSGET.

Thanks for any help!

You can do this by just eliminating the "x" paramter
from (ssget):

Instead of (ssget "x" '((..filter..)))

Just use (ssget '((.... filter ....)))

Chris,

To obtain the objects using the normal windowing method (along with any
other method) you might use something like:

(defun c:ssgetw ()
(setq ss (ssget '((0 . "LINE"))))
(command "erase" ss "")
(princ)
)

To obtain the objects using a specified window only, you might use
something like:

(defun c:ssgetwa ()
(setq p1 (getpoint "\nFirst corner of window: "))
(setq p2 (getcorner p1 "\nOther corner of window: "))
(setq ss (ssget "W" p1 p2 '((0 . "LINE"))))
(command "erase" ss "")
(princ)
)

Hope this gives you some ideas.

I suggest you use just plain (ssget) and then filter the reguiered
objects from it.
This way you are free to select anything or way you want.

Good luck

And how would you recommend doing that? Filters are applied to selections
not selection sets. The suggestions offered by Tony and Flitter are correct.

Frank,

Some programmers do select all objects, filter each object in the selection
set, and then remove any that do not match the criteria from the selection
set with ssdel.

Reminds me of putting all of the chickens in the pen, then killing the hens
just to get the roosters. 🙂

I can't imagine why anyone would want to do an entget and check the 0 fields
of every entity when they could just use a selection set filter. Guess I'm a
little myopic.

Selection set filters allow for the use of wildcards: (ssget "X" '((0 .
