Original excel files (of OLE Objects) included while doing eTrasmit

Hi CAD Gurus,

Is there a way to include the original Excel Files of embedded OLE Objects in the file File Table, (other than Add File option) while creating a Custom eTrasmittal Setup in Autocad 2018?  I can see the Embedded OLE Excel Table in the Autocad Drawing when I open the eTransmitted drawing, but  when I Open the OLE link it Immediately goes to the Current OLE Excel File Location and the OLE object gets updated. This is scary, since we would like to freeze the drawing in time when we are issuing a drawing submission. The, the reason why we have the excel file, is if we ever want to recreate the drawing for what ever reason it could be. any input in this regards are extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance,

VM

Are you sure about what you are writing?

Embedded ole has nothing to do with an external file..

Can you share a simple sample?

Dwg(with your embedded ole)

And your etransmit file and whatever we need for the try to reproduce your steps.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for letting me know the technicality between OLE and actual file, the OLE is linked to - was not aware of it.

So to explain it further, I need to send all supporting files to the client ( or I am freezing a submitted drawing at that particular time for keeping an office copy for future use) when I am submitting a drawing. The eTransmit set up has all the files listed other than the actual Excel files (Plant lists, Site Furniture Schedules and City landscape requirements). Currently I am adding these files separately using the "Add File" option in eTransmit. I was just wondering if this can be automated with the help of a LISP. My logic here is:

The current autocad file has the OLE embedded in it ( through a paste link option) - so the drawing knows what file the OLE object is linked to. That's why when we double click the OLE, the original Excel file opens. My my "thinking" is if there is a way to create a routine to extract this info ( original Excel file location), which can be added to the eTransmit function, this will be lot more efficient. Please see a sample CAD Drawing, eTransmit, Original Excel Files uploaded. Note: embedded files are in Layout1.

Thanks and regards,

VM

Your OLE objects are not embedded OLE,  it is a stupid picture and the information where the original external file is to fined (perhaps): Linked OLE data.

See my attached sample. I opened your XLS, marked and [ctrl]+[c] the cells,

in Acad is used command _PASTESPEC

Sorry, but currently I am tired and have no desire for big explanations.
Maybe this answer will help you already.

Hi Sebastian,

I wish there was more clarity in your reply, rather than some sarcasm. If you want to reply , reply to the questions so that people can understand and find a solution. If you are busy, nobody is pressurizing you to reply. You need to reply to the thread when you have a clear mind and when you have enough time to convey a possible solution.

IMO that is how you behave in a professional forum.

Regards,

No sarcasm on my side.

Sorry, but you've written several times of 'embedded OLE', but this was a false statement in the situation(wording 'embedded' together with OLE).

I have pointed this out several times and in my last answer with description and an attachment shown what an embedded OLE is.

For some users, this information and file could be sufficient as an explanation.

With embedded OLE you dont need the external excel file, it is another thing as your linked OLE.

If not, ask about details and i can answer more in detail.

Back to etransmit:

The Excel file directly in etransmit add is not possible ootb and for an additional program (for acad full versions) missing Informationen.

But still without more information i can say: Yes it is possible to create a custom program for this and no, i don't know about a ready working program for excel OLEs.

For usual i programming my own solutions or ask the developer of my choice.

Qustions like:

Just for  the current DWG?

Just for open DWG?

For one or for multiple DWG, with or without nested files(excel ole files from Xref files too or not?).

Save location, where? Which name? Other settings?

Sorry, but i am also not happy about your reply. I just tried to help, but i will stop with this now.

Thx.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the clarification and detailed reply. Sorry about the two email exchanges. I sincerely apologize if I make you feel offended. It was not my intention. Sorry again. I hope we can move on.

I reopened the drawing you attached in the previous email and found the difference. I was not aware how to embed an excel file. I still don't know, but if it is a standard procedure, I think I can search and find out. I might bother you again, I hope I can, if I can't.

Thanks for the time and effort from your side to give clarifications on this.

I am accepting your reply as a solution for my post.

Thanks again.

Open he XLS,
select the range of your choice
Copy to clipboard (CTRL+)
Back in Acad:
Command: PasteSpec
'Ts'

I don't if this is a good way for your or not. OLE is general a problem, if you try to edit the embedded OLE data with  newer ACADversion, so save all source files (yours *.xls) too. Oerhaps there is no Problem with the next version, but in 5 Years?

Sorry, i can not help more
