Land Desktop 2004 Seizure

I have a new job where they are running Land Desktop 2004 on Windows 10 machines (64-bit).  Yay, I'm doing engineering again!
They installed fine (without Longbow), but there is one seriously annoying glitch that started about 2 years ago...  After they insert a title block with border, exploded, into paper space, any dtext edit followed by a mouse-wheel zoom seizes up the drawing to where you have to kill it in Task Manager.  Have you ever heard of or seen such a symptom?  They had been running 2004 for years on Windows 7 machines without any problems.
I have been looking for anything odd, but have found nothing yet.  The title block is nothing but lines, polylines, dtext, and a few 2D solids.  My only current suspects are perhaps multiple ADCADD_ZZ blocks or maybe BOLD.SHX, which I will test by removing and purging.

Turn off hardware acceleration and see i that helps too.

But you cannot pretend this does not exist:
"2014 and older versions of AutoCAD and AutoCAD-based verticals will not be supported on Windows 10"

Well, that's a problem. I can't find any choice for hardware acceleration
in 2004.
BTW, 2004 is R16.0

I forgot your old version did not have that nicety. See if running R2004 in Win7 compatibility mode helps https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/how-to-install-or-run-a-program-in-compatibility-mode-in-window...

How about XREFing titleblocks instead of INSERT/EXPLODE combo?

I had never heard of that. I will check it out on Monday.
None of our work is 3D.

I have already dealt with Longbow. They are great for getting old AutoCAD
to install in Win10, but they seem to have nothing for seizures when it's
running.
It seems to happen here only with an 11X17 title block/border, so I guess I
will perform some surgery on that file. I'll get a new blade for my
SawsAll.
