Job Title

Hello, I have a question. I am setting up (learning) Advance Steel for my company in order to use it for our needs. It is not up and running yet but I'm getting close. So I am trying to find some sort of step process used by experienced users who have done this successfully or do this for a living in order to structure my process and eliminate (squirrels). Since I am unsure what the job title for this position is I am having a hard time coming up with web search results. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Justin

There's a Forum for that specifically, if that might be a better place to ask [since it's not clear to me to what degree this is really a Customization question vs. an Advance Steel question].

I am looking for just a general job title for someone who customizes really any software for their companies needs, I don't need necessarily steps for Advance Steel, just trying to find steps that work for customizing software in this fashion.

Seriously, I have mostly been called "CAD Manager." but my guess is that your company already has one.  From my experience, you don't want to have too lofty a title, and don't overlap with someone else's job.  That's how I lost mine years ago.  At the time I knew more and solved more than the IT guy.  He viewed me as a threat and was @$$#0le buddies with the president, so I was terminated.  They're all in jail now, but that hasn't helped me.

As long as they pay you well, I suggest you go for the title of Gopher.  Sorta like in "Under Siege."  Just be "a lowly cook."

I understand what your saying about stepping on anyone's shoes, I don't feel that I am since I work closely with IT and were all almost a team to get this goal accomplished, I guess my reasoning behind the question isn't to change my work title, I'm an engineering technician and that's what I will stay.....hopefully. I would like to know (Google search keywords) so I can come up with better steps to accomplish this goal from a senior person who has posted their steps or just to find ones that work best for my job at hand.

Programmer?  I have a son with a computer science degree who does programming work for Google, and they're just called Engineers.  [Neither may do you much good in web-searching for the kind of thing you're looking for, though -- you'll get way too many hits about entirely inapplicable topics.]

Okay.  The best and biggest thing you can do is to recognize needs, even if they don't recognize them.  Then implement solutions that benefit the users and the company as a whole.  I has so much fun doing that, following the adage that "necessity is the mother of invention."  My objective was to increase productivity.  There is great reward in that, even if just a sense of accomplishment.  I think that is why most of us are here in this forum... to learn and to pass on the knowledge.

P.S. Add adjectives in front of job title to get more pay.

Ah, like:

Pusilanymous Xenophobe

Simpering Milksop

Repulsive Reprobate

Pencil-Neck Geek

Simpletonian Recreant

Any of those titles is sure to gain one his due reward.  😕
