Importing settings

My computer was struck by lightning.  The motherboard, ram and power unit were destroyed, and the hard drive damaged, but I've managed to get all the information off the hard drive.  I had exported my settings in autocad 2019, and I would like to import them onto the new computer.  But everything I've found about it on the web simply talks about the settings being exported to a zip file - nowhere can I find what that zip file is called, or where autocad puts it.  Can I copy it into autocad on the new computer and import it?

Also, autocad helpfully allowed me to download autocad, but only 2020, for which I don't yet have a license - I have a 2019 license.   I've bought myself a backup laptop, and I will use 2020 as a 30 day trial until I get my new PC up and running. I managed to find a website that allowed me to download 2019, but is there a way to download 2019 from Autodesk?

@Anonymous hi,

but I've managed to get all the information off the hard drive.

well, it depends on how did you save these settings? if it was manually (e.g you copy each file acad.cuix lisp file fonts etc) than the only way to restore these settings is manually.

the correct way to save autocad settings is by invoking :

Start\All programs\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019- English\Migrate Custom Settings\Export AutoCAD 2019 settings

only this one will create the zip file you now can not find.

an AutoCAD subscription license allows you to down load and run the program up to 4 version back. this means if you have a 2020 license than you should also be able to down load 2019,2018 & 2017.

Thank you, Moshe.  I went to autocad on the start menu, and selected export Autocad 2019 settings.

When I try to download off the autodesk site it does not give me an option - it downloads autocad 2020.  I am not yet licensed for autocad 2020.

Sorry, meant to add that I did that with my old machine, which has now crashed, so I need to know the name and location of the zip file.

if you did that, than the zip file by the name AutoCAD 2019 - English_cust_settings.zip should be found in your Document folder under your profile.

when you sign in to your autodesk subscription go to All Products & Services under your AutoCAD item click on View all Product versions you should get a list of all the version you are allowed to download but if you can not see it then maybe your license does not allow it.

Contact your reseller, they should be able to resolve the installer issue.  If you don't have a reseller get one - this is one the things they help with.

Once you get the installer (typically multiple EXE files), put them in an offline backup just like your drawings and other critical files.  Disaster recovery is one of the main reasons for those backups.
