Tool Palette drag & drop blocks with layer creation

Hi all

We are just setting up our dynamic block database on a tool palette. What i would like is when a user pulls a block from the tool palette into a drawing. I would like the layers checked to see if a specific layer exists within that drawing and places the block on that layer. If the specific layer doesn't exist then that layer is created and the block inserted onto that layer.

Is that too much to ask or are you all laughing at how easy it is to resolve.

Either way I welcome your responses. Please bear in mind that I am new to VBA.

Thanks all

You can do this in the properties of the block on the Tool Palette itself.

First. Create the layer you want the block to appear on.

Second. On the Tool Palette select the block, right click on it and select properties.

Third. A box should come up with a General section in there the first item is Color and the second is LAYER.

Fourth. Select the Layer you just created,

Fifth. To test this open a totally blank drawing with no layers in it and then drag your block into the drawing.

I agree with your process. However general staff will not know or want to go through that process. I need an automated process that will enable staff to comply with company standards.

I'm not too sure how to do it as I'm the only AutoCAD LT user in my office, but I'm sure you can set up a network drive with your tool palettes there and then point everyones' support path to the network path.
