Image Tile Menu Customization for r13

Please Help...I'm wanting to create an image tile menu.
I have added the following to my mnu file...

***POP8
[Visual Libraries]
[Screws...]^C^C$I=SCREWS $I=*

I then set up slides in a certain directory. Next, I went to the image menu
section of my mnu file and added this under ***image:

**SCREWS
[Select Screw]
[7000024]^C^CINSERT;7000024;\DRAG;;;;EX;L;;;

The image tile menu (dialog box) activates, inserts the appropriate block,
but I can't get it to display the picture (slide) of the screw (7000024)
inside the image tile menu (dialog box).

Also, I have put the slides and my updated mnu file in the same directory.
However, even when I do type a long filename such as
"D:\slides\screws\7000024.sld" it still doesn't work.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

It's been a long time since I've done anything in R13 so check this out
thoroughly: I believe you need to add your slides to the AutoCAD slide
library (acad.slb?). If you got to cadalog.com, you're sure to find
utilities to help you with this.

You're close. The slides do indeed need to be in a slide library (why, I don't
know), but it doesn't have to be acad.slb - it can be any slide library file.
Then, of course, you have to specify the .slb file name as well as the slide in
the menu item.

No, the slides do not have to be in a library. They can be individual
slides. The only two things I can suggest is that the location of the slide
is not on AutoCAD's support files path, or there is a space as the first
character, in which case AutoCAD will not display the slide even if it is
found.

Okay...when I set a support path to the location of the slides, it worked!
But Why?
Will I have to have my path set to different directories (full of slides)
for each Image Tile Menu that I create?
We work with many pieces of hardware (screws, fasteners, etc.) and I plan to
keep the slides organized in separate directories. Setting a path to all
these different directories could be a pain.
Why doesn't it work when I use long filenames in my menu such as
"F:\Illustration\Slides\Screws\7000024.sld"?
I really appreciate all of your help.

Hi Tom,
The answer to question #1 is yes you do have to have a support path
specified for the directory your keeping the slides in or else have the path
hard coded with your filename (not recommended). I'm guessing that the slides
are being stored on a network drive. So the answer to question #2 is that some
of the networking softwares (novel is famous for this) will see a truncated
filename even though the long filename may show up in explorer, ect. Which
leaves you with the following options. Update your netware, don't use long
filenames, or stores your slides local. Sorry.

Tom,

Although the slides do not have to be in a library, if you have loads of
them, it would be much easier to control them if they were put into
libraries. SLIDELIB.EXE is the tool you're looking for, in the support
directory.

Add the slide folder to the Acad support path.
