Since Adobe does not [or I have not been able to find it] publish their API, how does one programmatically go about specifying where to create PDFs. If it's through ports then how do you change the ports in XP. Thanks. Joe --

Joe, try out this page for documentation. Some of the docs are only available to members, but most of the general stuff is availailable. No, you can create a web account [which is free] and download anything that does not have a padlock beside it. I downloaded the CoreAPI reference [which contains more than 3000 pages]. Joe, Did you find a way to programmatically specify filename and location? I have not been able to find anything in the CoreAPI reference, and have re-installed Adobe 5.0. Any suggestions? The last API reference I had was back in r4 for the PDF writer. I'm sure it's changed slightly since then. But then, it was stored in a WIN.INI file or the Registry (depending on OS). With that in mind, try this.... Configure (Manually) Adobe to automatically specify the file name (so it doesn't prompt you). Generate a PDF from your drawing (again, manually). Now find the file Adobe generated and note the file name. Next do a text search of your local PC's HD for files containing that text string. If it's in an editable INI/CFG file, it'll show up in this search. If it doesn't, search for the file name in the registry. It should (I'm guessing based on past methods) show up in one of those two places. Then all your programming needs to do is write the proper info to that area prior to sending the plot (which should still be configured to name it automatically). -- Darren J. Darren, Adobe 6 does not include the "PDF writer" anymore. I did not find anything in the registry that would let me specify the path and file name. Any other ideas or suggestions..... I looked since you posted this and I guess they did retool the way it's done. I knew PDFWriter was gone but figured they'd still use a similar method. If you are going to use the AutoCAD integrated Acrobat functionality (required for layers in the PDF, etc), there is this library that you can reference in your VB project.... AdobePDFMakerX.tlb Which looks like it's the AutoCAD integrated stuff. If you are just plotting to get the PDF, perhaps a different library will be needed. Worse case, just rename the PDF file after it's created (allowing Adobe to generate the default). -- Darren J.
