Supporting Properties with "Function" like in Inventor.

Supporting Properties with "Function" like in Inventor.

The current property editing dialog in Vault overwrites all property values as a static string regardless of how the value is determined in Inventor. End User currently can't see in Vault if a Property Value is a result of a Formula driven by geometrical Parameters from the Inventor 3D Model or just typed as a static string value.

Unnoticed overwriting of function properties with static string values has caused many errors and repair work in our company.
The property editing dialog in Vault should look similar to Inventor and have the "fx" button next to the value input to switch between the function definition and its output.

Vault should edit properties with a "Function" in the same way as in Inventor, without overwriting as with static text.

Thank you for posting the idea. Inventor Properties with formulas should have the property mapping from File -> Vault so that property editing in Vault doesn't override the formula. Have you setup your mapping this way?

We have a "Specification" property that contains detailed technical information for orders. Depending on the type of part, it may contain standards, sizes, or references to drawings. This means that this property does not always contain formulas.
We do not want to split the "Specification" into multiple properties for each different "Information Type". In general, our approach is to keep the number of properties as low as possible to increase transparency and keep the property grid uncluttered.
We have discussed setting up this one-way mapping, but this would limit option to maintain "Specification" in the Vault for members with static text in this field. We have some product managers who maintain design properties in the Vault but do not have Inventor knowledge.

We typically set most Inventor iprops as bidirectional, so users can edit them from either application.  There are times that we would like to set the edit direction on a per file basis.  An example might be material thickness in the Description iprop.
