Open PDF should be defaulted to "View in Window" command.

Open PDF should be defaulted to "View in Window" command.

Many times we have a pdf open and have to redo an export to pdf because it is open. Can this be defaulted to "View in Window" command on double click or right click open, on pdfs only. It still opens with the same default pdf viewer, but no longer locks it on the local hard drive and can still be written to.

Nice idea. But I don‘t think Autodesk can do anything about it. The locking it done by the viewer, in your case probably Acrobat. Try using another PDF viewer.

@RajSchmidt it is done by all programs. but the view in window is a completely different command. it doesn't steal the right to the file.

I’ve had bad experiences with Adobe very aggressively locking PDFs, that’s why my comment. But sure, changing the default would be nice. Or giving the Admin the option to set this centrally.

Thank you for posting the idea.

To clarify, the View in Window uses Adobe Reader to open the PDF; however, the PDF is placed in the Temp location. That is why the copy in the workspace is not locked.

@ihayesjr This would be a step in the right direction, six sigma, agile, lean, all those programs speak about identifying something that could only increase productivity. this would be the one little change. Rename the view in window to open. delete the open command for pdfs.
