Make Trash Bin Searchable

Make Trash Bin Searchable

The new trash bin looks good at first. But we really need an option to search for documents in there!

Case 1: User A has deleted a file called “123.ipt” to the trash bin. User B tries to create a new file with the same name. And gets the message “File name already exists”. But User B has no chance to find the deleted file and gets stuck.

Case 2: A file called “123.pdf” was deleted to the trash bin. Now a job is run that tries to create a new “123.pdf”. And gets stuck of course!

We urgently need the possibility to search for files in the trash bin. For manual searches you could put in a check box right beside the “Search only last versions” option.

But even more important is the possibility to search via API for all things scripting related.

My full support.

Thanks for the important tip! We are not yet on version 2026, but case 2 would make it impossible for us to use the trash bin....
Does the trahs bin actually work like this?

It should not only be searched for (within the trash bin), but a "trahs bin file" should be considered "as deleted!". In other words: ‘Non-existent for all processes’.
Sure, the file could be restored, but as long as it is in the trash bin, it should "de facto" no longer exist.
e.g.: even when assemblies try to use a "trahs bin file", it should be reported with a missing reference.

Correct. Fortunately, a file that is used somewhere cannot deleted anyway.

@RajSchmidt An alternative approach could be to exclude the trash bin from the unique file name policy (either as a default setting or configurable by the Admin). This would allow users to create a new file with the same name as a file currently in the trash. However, if the user attempts to restore the file from the trash bin, they would receive an error stating “File name already exists.”
