We like to use Items as they are a good mechanism for accurately exporting or connecting the CAD BoM to other systems. On the Item BoM, I also want to see the Revision either synced with the associated drawing & model (i.e. the Primary file), or at least be able to see the Primary file Revision in the BoM view. I could then export the Primary file revision alongside the Items. I can see 'Primary file version' is an available field (screenshot attached); please can AutoDesk make "Primary file Revision" available also.
Some further context. In our company we use the Item's Drawing Revision as the master 'Revision' for the item. The drawing for us is the most important piece of data. We are not actually so fussed about controlling other associated metadata. If you can imagine, if a component was to not fit or function as intended, the first thing we'd look at is 'has it been made to drawing, or even the correct drawing revision'. Our contracts with suppliers would also stipulate to "manufacture the component to drawing x". So tracking the drawing revision in downstream systems is very important for traceability. It would seem ridiculous to have to add this data manually.
We've been down the road of using Items to control files before, and that gets very painful - please don't recommend this as a solution.
