File Status for Project Sync Management

File Status for Project Sync Management

When a file is uploaded/downloaded to/from the cloud in Vault Pro 2019, there is no information to indicate that the file has been shared in the cloud.

I understand that a specific folder needs to be selected for Project Sync Management, but even in that folder the users do not know if the files have been synced to the cloud or not.

The solutions that I can recommend are:

  1. A new version of the file get created in Vault ever time that a file is synced to the cloud.
  2. Like State or Revision that have their own fields, there can a field called Cloud Status to show if a file has been synced to the cloud.

Solution 1 by far is the best because it will also show the time and date that the file was synced to the cloud.

Thanks for posting your idea. Unfortunately, your solution #1 will not work as Project Sync is looking at the version difference between the folder in Vault and the folder in Fusion. If a new version is then put in Vault that triggers a new sync to Fusion. We will have to investigate a different method.

Problem statement

Inventor & Fusion 360 getting closer to each other and data exchange is increasing. We see more customers using Fusion 360 to leverage CAM capabilities with their Inventor models. The easiest way for Vault users to provide CAD files (in this use case Inventor models) is to use Vault's Project Sync.

Once the Inventor model is synchronized a Vault user doesn't know, if a files is synchronized on Fusion Team. There is no identifier.

Solution approach

Could you add an icon or a Vault property can be used as identifier for synchronized CAD files, please? I guess a property makes the most sense as the Desktop Connector copies files to Fusion Team and the connection "is broken". E.g., a property with name Project Sync Synched On: 16. Mar 2023. I trust on readers input as well! What makes the most sense to you? What do you need to have a reliable info about synchronized CAD files?

Other thoughts

  • Currently, the Project Sync configuration allows to use properties (UDPs) to filter/to define what files shall be synchronized. That's fine and the filter criteria could be used in a search folder as well to display what files are synched. Is this sufficient for users?
  • The Project Sync configuration defines a Vault folder its content should be synchronized. Another approach for CAD files are synchronized could be, to use a Vault folder and store file links of CAD files inside. Use drag files by right-click and create file links inside this folder. The Filter needs then a UDP checks, if the object is a file link. If yes, synchronize the linked (real) file independently of its location.

Hello

We also need this feature, after the files are synced we don't have any indication it was uploaded.

Thanks

Dan
