Create a proper Vault validation log

Create a proper Vault validation log

When running validation on a Vault;
Create a log file of *all* files that fail validation. Not just the files that failed the most recent validation.
Include the file name (as shown in Client), the MasterID, the Version and the file name and path in the filestore.

Allow validation to run while the Vault is live, i.e. don't stop the Vault while validation is in progress.

Currently validation only logs new errors in the ADMS Filestore Logs. This takes a lot of work to parse these logs and extract the above information. Plus, the MasterID isn't reported so the records are hard to find in the database.
Only files which have failed since the last validation seem to be reported, so it's impossible to even attempt to fix a file that failed previously. So the log needs to include *all* files that fail validation.

It would be very helpful if validation could be run without stopping access to the Vault. We don't have enough downtime between the end of one working week and the start of the next, to run validation on live data. The only time I can run it is on a backup, after I have created the backup.

Thank you for posting the idea.

The Validation command can be executed at anytime by itself.

Also, the validation command log should have all current files that have a problem. This should include any files that have failed validation in the past if they have not been corrected.

Thanks @ihayesjr I'll make a note of the command line process.

Will running validation from a command line (instead of from the console) also lock out user access to Vault? I appreciate the difficulty in validating a moving target...

@shallN6L5D which edition of Vault are you running?

A Backup with Vault Professional does not lock out users, nor should running the commandline validation.

@ihayesjr We have just upgraded to 2026 Vault Professional.
When we were running Vault 2024 I once started a (hot) backup and accidentally left the 'validate' option checked, and it locked out users while the validation was running.
