Autodesk cloud temporary backup/snapshot service

Autodesk cloud temporary backup/snapshot service

Sometimes during upgrades/migrations we require backups on the go, which are mostly temporary, and those could possibly leverage a cloud hosting service. Many companies use their own virtual environment for this, but if Autodesk is thinking of ideas to offer more cloud services (*wink wink*), this would possibly be a great quality-of-life improvement.

This could be implemented in the ADMS console, and expire after a set amount of days or hours (token-purchased), with the possibility of extending the time (warns when time is running out, etc.).

Hi @Gabriel_Watson , just for clarification: Where do you see the advantage in that? Okay, if you have not enough disk space it might be a solution. But in my experience the bottleneck is rather the time needed to create and restore backups. And I can’t see where a cloud-based solution could improve that.

Right, certainly this will not be a benefit for everyone, @RajSchmidt.

I think the main advantages are for smaller companies where the CAD admin will not have to contact IT for snapshotting before the upgrade, and for bigger companies where the snapshot is too large to manage.
If your server is not on-premise, this would be more useful than if you had the speed advantage of snapshotting locally. And I also see a possibility of validating the snapshot as it is stored in the cloud. For multi-site filestore replication, I think this could help in speed as well:

Good morning and thank you!

I see your point for cloud-based servers and multi-sites. And the possibility to validate in the background without using server resources sounds very nice.

@Gabriel_Watson the AWS CLI has capabilities to make the S3 storage look like a drive. Then you can send your backups to that location. I don't think we need to do anything to make this work.
