Auto-Change Lifecycle based on Category Assigned

Auto-Change Lifecycle based on Category Assigned

Myself and a couple of co-workers were discussing this the other day and realized it would be a nice enhancement to have the option that if you have a file in Vault that is already assigned a Category and thus an associated Lifecycle, if for whatever reason you change the Category of the file, that the Lifecycle tied to the Category would also automatically be assigned to the file.

As it is now, if you change the file's Category, you must also manually change the Lifecycle to that assigned to the Category.

I understand there might be some restrictions or maybe an error or two based on the differences between the Lifecycles and their States, but I'm sure there can be some sort of "prompt" during the process as to which State the file needs to go to in the new Lifecycle you are moving it to.

I like Rob Jordan's approach.  But I think I would rather see the Revision, Lifecycle all controlled administratively.  To be honest when I start looking into implementing Lifecycles in our vault.  I was rather shocked that this could not be all controlled in the behaviors section of the Vault Settings dialog.  It is software so almost anything can be done.  Lets have it both ways.

Could not agree with 'jeremy-mortem' enough on this one; 'PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN'.

I just spent at least 2 hours attempting to configure this funtionality for a custom parts library, whilst reffering to Autodesks online instructions, and trying every possibly concievable combination of config. options, but still couldnt make it work. I honestly felt like I must be in the middle of having a brain anuerysm, as I could not figure out what exactly I was doing wrong for such simple functionality to not be working for me...............the I found this forum.............and realised what I was trying to achieve is literally impossible. I'd give this 10 votes if I could.

It would be great!

We get many customer calls cause having different user rights on different lifecycles.

So actually user not allowed to see/download a document could do this!

Maybe we should move this idea to the Upchain forum to see if it gets implemented there...
