Assign Vault filename/part number to sub-components during import in Inventor

As an owner/operator of a complex infrastructure project, our organisation often receives assembly CAD data from external contractors in a variety of CAD formats.  One of the first actions that take place is the opening of these files in Inventor and converting them into Inventor format.  The current situation is that I have to add a prefix to the filename so that when I check the assembly into Vault I do not receive any errors due to duplicate filenames already being present in Vault.  I then have to copy the imported filename into Excel, remove the prefix, then paste this data into a dedicated iProperty in order to maintain traceability of the source file.
What I would like to happen is that at the conversion stage in Inventor, I have the option to automatically rename the converted files according to a Vault numbering system.  An additional improvement would be to have the ability to map the original filename into a dedicated iProperty in Vault in order to maintain traceability of the source file.

Thank you for posting the Idea.

The operation you are looking for requires Vault's Copy Design feature to make these changes.

Since the files are not in Vault, it would not be possible for Vault to control the file's name while it is open inside of Inventor and in the workspace.

However, you should look at Inventor's Design Assistant to make these changes before loading the files into Vault.
