Add Synchronize Properties and Assign Update to task scheduler options

Having the ability to synchronize properties and assign updates to a file from the task scheduler would save so much time. This functionality is only available at the client level. Synchronize properties are only available on a part or part(s) level not from a folder or folder's parents. So it makes synchronizing properties on a large scale an all-day event mainly due to if you do too many you will trigger a re-indexing of the vault. The same goes for Assign Update a file.

@Tiffany_Hayden_

Thank you for posting the idea. I am trying to understand the need for these two commands in the Task Scheduler.

Let's start with Update Properties.

When you check out a file, Update Properties can happen at that time.

When the file is checked out, changes in the properties are synchronized on the next check-in.

After changing a lifecycle, property synchronization can be triggered for the Job Processor.

What is the workflow for this to be in the Task Scheduler?

@ihayesjr For us the need is mass updates. The item number is not synchronized from the item side on check in. So for us we have to synchronize properties after check-in occurs. So the item number will come from the item into the part.  Since we work with library parts and the parts on creation do not have an item number but the connection exists on the item a manual synchronizing of properties has to happen in the vault client. If you have multi-level folder structure like we do it makes synchronizing properties a tedious process. To be able to add a folder to the task scheduler and have it go through all the files and synchronize properties under that folder would speed up the process to just leave it and forget it. If it runs for hours it's not holding up my client doing that process behind the scenes.

Process Flow

  1. Check out file
  2. Making parametrized parts from a spreadsheet that auto-fills iProperties based off of part need. The item number is not part of the spreadsheet since it exists in Vault and the synchronizing properties process exists which insures accuracy.
  3. Check-in File
  4. Assign update
  5. Synchronize properties

Of course, this is on a one-file scale. Think about changing thousands. It makes synchronizing properties very fun if you can imagine. 🙂
