Web Client not opening DWF file

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

When I try to view a file with in Chrome or IE I get the following message:

Autodesk® Design Review Browser Add-in is not available to display this content.

I have installed the add-in but still get the same message.

The DWF copy of the Inventor file exists

What I don't get is that if I upload the same DWF file up into my 360 account it opens perfectly.

Is this not the same viewer, should this be working in the web client window?

We are using Vault Pro 2017 and Inventor Pro 2017

Any help gratefully received......Thanks

I think I may have just answered my own question. Just found the following in the Knowledge Base.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

Issue:When opening a DWF visualization file in Vaults thin client, the Autodesk Design Review toolbars are missing and inaccessible.
Causes:Autodesk Design Review controls the loading of the toolbar into web browsers.  The Autodesk Vault Thin Client does not control the toolbar loading in the web browsers.
The technology used to view visualisation files in web browsers is no longer supported by the browser developers.
Unfortunately, as the technology is phased out of the browsers, issues like this will become more prevalent.
Solution:The Vault development team has determined the problem will not be fixed; Autodesk Design Review is no longer in development (ADR 2013 was the last release). Because of this, no actions are planned to resolve this particular problem.

The workaround is to install Autodesk Design Review on the local system, download the DWF for local view/print/markup need and use the markup tools in ADR.  If Vault Office is in use, the DWF can then be checked back into the Vault as a marked-up file.

If this is correct the web client is no use to us.

We are not allowed to have Design Reveiw 2013 on our PC's as it to old and not supported!

Autodesk Design Review was updated in 2017 which fixed some bugs that were causing compatibility issues.  So as far as the too old statement, that does not apply.  The link you shared does give the latest version.  Also check out this readme link for known issues: http://download.autodesk.com/esd/designreview/2018/ADR/adr_readme.htm

Hope this all helps you get the latest version installed to see if that will help you get what you need.

Here is a screen shot of the version I have installed.

Thanks Rob, that has fixed all the issues.

I can now see the dwg files within the internet browser and download the dwf files directly into design review.

The preview window in Vault is also working a lot better!

Interesting point is that when I downloaded ADR on the English page it gave me the 2013 version!

When i stayed on the USA page it downloaded the 2017 version like your screen print.

Next step is to convince my IT team to add this version to the available downloads so my colleagues can access it.

Thanks

Martin
