Hi,
I'm busy testing Vault out (no prior experience) and I'm running different VMs for the scenario where we are after. We have set this up on different virtual machines to test this.
I have done the following.
Currently, when I want to install Vault Server it gives me the error "The specified computer name is invalid. Please enter a valid computer name.". I've set up the SQL server from the Advance Config Guide 2014 and the Help Files and followed various SQL videos to ensure sharing of info can happen. I can log in via a client SSMS into the SQL DB.
If there is any advice, I'm all open at this point.
Let me know if there are any additional questions.

@DarrenP Do you have any experience with Vault on VM?

Is the computer name longer than 15 characters?
Can you post a screenshot of when/where your getting this error?

Do you include the instancename in the SQL Server name field? If so you'll get the "The specified computer name is invalid. Please enter a valid computer name."
Instance name in Specify SQL instance name field and Computer name in SQL Server name field
An update, the error stopped. But to answer the questions:
@DarrenP- no the PC names were short like MWSQL-srv or MWVault-srv.
@GunnarNilsson No, was only the SQL.
I don't know what the resolution was in the end. I might just chuck this up that the computer needed a restart and not just the VM's.
The second error I've received now - which shouldn't be a full problem but now my user can't authenticate with the SQL server (Incorrect Username or Password). Busy going through SQL and Vault to reset these to get it working.
