Vault Database Tables

 We have a reporting need to access Backend Vault database tables . fyi, We are not doing any manipulations to the data here, all we want is to read data from those tables for reporting purposes by connecting  the vault database thru SAP Business Objects.

We are looking for the specific tables or query which store the drawing number and revision  number. Please tell us where in the Vault database this information is stored. Appreciate your help badly as we are struggling to find this information.

Thanks

The Vault sql tables are not really meant to be messed with at all.  However, there are ways to integrate Vault with SAP or other ERP systems.  I refer you to >>this thread<< for some possible ideas.

Maybe if you told us more specifically what you are trying to do, we can offer more advice.

Hi @Anonymous,

I would strongly recommend that you use the Vault API to get the information that you need. I realise that you are proposing to only do SELECT queries, however, our experience is that any automation that accesses the AUTODESKVAULT SQL databases regularly, can have serious implications on performance and user experience.

For that reason it is not supported.

It is of course, your data and your environment and so you can choose to follow this advice or not.

Chris,  We  are trying to generate a report that has all the drawings with their latest revision. It is basically a 2 column report, First Column is Drawing Number and second Column is Latest Revision Number . For that we want to access the VAULT Database tables so that we can hook it up with our Enterprise Reporting Tool SAP Business Objects  so that our end users can  create an adhoc report.

We currently use GPS, Green Pastures as our document storage software for our drawings. We are moving from GPS to VAULT. We have the capability of reporting against GPS database, so we expect to do the same when we move to VAULT. Otherwise, it is big show stopper as  we need to convert all our GPS reports to VAULT.

Please help us in this matter. Expect to hear a positive response from you.

Thanks

@Anonymous,

Before you start writing your own code, you might want to check out Vaults Reporting functionality. It is possible to customise a number of templates that come bundled with Vault Professional.

Forrest Judd put a very useful movie together that might help

Mastering Items and BOMs with Autodesk Vault Professional.

I'm just thinking that if you can use the Vault UI to generate the report that you need, automating it through the API is just one step more....
