Vault Basic 2025 Installation Failure

Hello forum, I have successfully installed and been using Vault on my PC. I have started to install on my laptop also Windows 10, but in the test for system readiness it failed with 1 error.

See image attached:

I have looked into this issue but seems a bit beyond my technical knowledge. I have looked in the registries to see if it has been disabled but have no idea which file to look in.

Has anyone come across this issue or can point me in the correct direction?

Kind Regards,

Oliver Noakes

That is a very informative document thank you very much. I will try all suggestions. I can access my vault on the server PC when connected to my local network, with my laptop. But I was hoping to have remote access and have access to vault.

So am I right in thinking that vault basic server is only installed on one computer acting as a server. Then other computers access this vault basic server only require vault basic client. And the Server PC is has the remote access settings?

Yes, that is correct.  In all of its forms, Vault is a Server/Client relationship.  So, if you have the Server on a PC, and Client on a laptop... the laptop will need to be on a network that allows it to access the Server.  If you're in a work environment this is probably a LAN.  At home it could be a simple home network where you designate one computer as the server, and give others access to it.  I haven' set one of those up in years, but I'm sure it can still be done.  🙂

Good luck!

I have the local environment working on LAN. But want remote access. Does Vault basic server 2025 support remote access or is this a paid for service Vault professional/PDM?

Remote access is more of a networking issue that you can deal with via a VPN or IP whitelisting. Access is just via HTTPS.

Vault Professional does have Gateway for remote access.

So when on LAN my server name is the username of the PC vault basic server is running on. When I connect through a VPN what is my server name?

Is it still the PC name, I am having problems accessing the vault server.

Thank Oliver

Sometimes when you are using a VPN the computer name will not work and you will need to use the IP address of the computer you wish to connect to. If using the IP of your Vault computer doesn't work you'll likely have to play with some VPN settings.
