Vault 2019 - Design Review versions - Read on

The other day someone reported they were seeing a big hang up on check in (of an Inventor model) regarding their new Vault 2019 upgrade.   Facts:

1.  Large Inventor model but only 3 components were being checked in.

2.  Although it felt like the check in process took about 5 mins to even start, I'm sure it was only like 3 mins to do this.

3.  For a test we disable the DWF creation on check in and repeated the workflow and check in completed within seconds.

4.  Created a simple rectangle extrusion in Inventor and checked it in with DWF creation on check in and it too hung for a long period of time.

5.  Launched Design Review thinking it was hanging on checking for updates.  The splash screen stayed on the screen and something about the splash screen didn't seem right to me.  But I don't really use ADR a lot.  Because it was hanging, I explained to the user that's probably the reason why you're having a delay with your check in (because something is wrong with Design Review).   So we waited and waited and waited and then I realized the splash screen could be close and there was an option to not display it again.   So we did and relaunched Design Review and ADR launched within seconds.

6.  Went back to Inventor and tried the workflow again on a single component with DWF creation.   Check in went fast so I asked the user did they ever run ADR and I was told no.  So I thought the problem was that ADR was never run and thought it was trying to register the application with the OS and user profile while the model was being checked in.

Walked away and the user contacted me again..  When you have more than one component checking in, the first component goes fast  and when the check in progress gets to about 50%, it hangs again and we had to wait like before.  So at this point I'm feeling like this  2018-07-25_15-38-56.jpg

So today we started looking at ADR settings.  When I told the user to check the DWG Viewing tab under ADR/Options, the user states he doesn't have that tab.   So we started checking  ADR versions..  Since I don't have Vault 2019 on my machine and the user does, their ADR version is 14.0.0.185 and mine is 14.0.0.179.    So I launched my ADR and checked for updates and I get a message I have the lasted.  I uninstall ADR and download it again..  Its at version 14.0.0.177.  I check for updates, and it updates again to version 14.0.0.179..  So the Vault client install is using a different ADR version and wondering if that's the cause of the user's issue.   Anybody care to explain why the ADR website has an earlier version of ADR but Vault 2019 is installing a different version?

Here's the ADR options for version 14.0.0.179

@cbenner

The confusing thing is..   IF you install Vault 2019 you get one version for ADR..  If you go to the ADR web site you get an older version.  If Vault 2019 requires this new version of ADR and someone uninstalls and goes to put ADR back on, they will get an older version.

You Vault users get all the new toys...  Smiley LOL

We’re special. Might also check Inventor View, to make sure it is working properly. Check DWF creation options in Vault to see what options they are running on check in. Is hardware a possibility?

I had the user uninstall the .185 version and install the .177 version of ADP from the Design Review website and check in works much faster..  But we ran into another issue that I will check on tomorrow with the user..

Hi @Mark.Lancaster. This is a very interesting find and situation you have. I would recommend you go to ADR 14.0.0.179 which is ADR 2018 with update 1 if ADR 14.0.1.185 is giving you problems.

Also, could you give me access to a pack and go of those files the users were trying to check in and having very slow check ins with ADR .185? I want to do some testing on our end and see if maybe there is something that can be improved in ADR going forward. Maybe you can upload it to a cloud location and give me access? if not I can do it from my end on A360 and add you to a folder.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Dredging up an old thread - our "slowness at checkin" was fixed by offloading all DWF creation to job Processor.

However, regarding version 179 vs 185 of ADR...

We have a particular DWF of a large assembly now, that crashes ADR when opened on a cpu with 185. If opened on a cpu with ADR 177 or 179, the DWF is completely usable as normal. Would you recommend uninstalling 185, and installing 179 on our CAD systems? (Inventor and Vault Pro 2019)

@Electrik  My official recommendation is to use the latest version which is 185 I believe. And if you are seeing issues, create a support case to work with Technical Support or your reseller. But with that said, I have seen version 179 be successful in certain scenarios (for reasons unknown yet) where 185 was not successful.

Hi Matt,

Would you know whether ADR  14.0.0.185 that comes with Vault 2019 is 2017 vintage or 2019?

Thank you
