Vault 2017: Microsoft Office 2016 Add-in

Hi,

I have a question about the Vault Add-in for Microsoft Office (word, excel).

We recently switched from Office 2013 to Office 2016. After the install I tried to install the

vault add-in from this link:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-vaul...

But when I open Office and I want to add them to Word or Excel I just can't find them.

I tried to add the .dll file from C:\Program Files\Autodesk\DM Apps but that don't work either.

I tried re-installing the add-in but after the installation the Office Addin 2017 folder under C:\Program Files\Autodesk\DM Apps with the .dll files

was gone.

I hope someone can help?

I added a screenshot of the About so you can see the installation version of office.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Can you check your Vault client installation, see if the Vault add-in for Office installed or not?

And could you go to Word - File - Opiton - Add-ins - COM Add-ins (Go),

In COM add - ins dialog box,  Could you check if the Autodesk Vault addin for office 2016 select?

Hi Henry

I installed the Autodesk Vault 2017 Add-ins for Microsoft Office 2016.

But I don't see the office add-in in my Vault Client Installation, only the outlook add-in.

I didn't install the outlook add-in because I don't need it.

If I go to Word – File – Options – Add-ins – COM Add-ins (GO) this is what I get:

Hi,

Just notice your are using Vault 2017.

For 2017 version, download the file from your first post, make sure the file are match your OS, x86 or x64. Use Administrator to install it, make sure window's UAC are closed.

After that go to control panel, check if Autodesk Vault 2017 add-ins for Microsoft office 2016 in installed program.

And go to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\MSOfficeAddins2016 to check if there has files in this folder. i

t's about 67 MB.

The office add-in should have add-in in com add-in dialog box.

If you still has issue. please try uninstall it first. delete all related file, login as administrator, close UAC, and install it again.

Hello

If I log with my admin account and I install the add-in, then I get the Vault Add-Ins in Word, Excel,... but only on my admin account. If I switch back to

my normal user account and startup any office software I don't see it.

So I tried to install the add-in on my normal user account (as admin) but with UAC switched off, the only problem is I can't switch off the UAC not even when I enter my admin credentials.

I'm going to discuss this with the IT department because I think this will be the solution.

I will let you know if I make any progress.

Thanks a lot

David

Hi Henry

Found a solution to the problem.

So on my admin account the installation worked and the Add-ins are available. But on my normal user account not.

So what did we do is export the registry keys from my admin account :

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\WordVaultAddinApp2016.Addin]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\PowerPoint\Addins\PowerpointVaultAddin2016.Addin]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\ExcelVaultAddinApp2016.Addin]

And add them to the registry of my user account. After doing this the add-ins were available on my normal user account.

We have the same issue.  To install requires Administrative rights, and the only user that the Add-In loads for is the Administrator.  Other non-administrator users do not get it.  We pushed out w/ deployment and also installed manually and same results.  It appears to be something in the installer that will not allow not allow the Add-Ins to load with office start up if the user is not an Administrator.

Thanks

Just for information:

We also tried to deploy "Autodesk Vault 2017 Add-ins for Microsoft Office 2016" and run into the same problem, that the Addins are not found in Excel/Word/PP, because we install through SCCM.

After taking a look to the Setup_MSI.msi / Setup_MSI_Office32.msi (packages inside the ADSK_Vault_MSOffice_2016Add-ins_x64.exe bundle) we see that the Keys for the Office Addins are written to HKEY_CURRENT_USER and not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

So to have the same behavior as with Vault Office 2013 Addins move the registry keys from HKEY_CURRENT_USER to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then it works for all user.

Changing the section of the registry hive from HKCU to HKLM did not seem to do anything. The Office 2016 add-in for Vault does not load. When loaded under HKCU it works but not HKLM. As such we are having a terrible time trying to get Vault rolled out to all of our users since they need the ability to integrate with Office 2016.

In our environment this does work perfect. We modified the Setup_MSI.msi (with a transformation) from the ADSK_Vault_MSOffice_2016Add-ins_x86.exe package, because we use Office 2016 32-Bit on Windows 7 / Windows 10 64-Bit.

Which Office 2016 version do you use 32-Bit or 64-Bit ?

regards

Hi Henry,

I can't seem to find any information pertaining to Vault 2013 & Microsoft Office 2016 Add ins.

Could you help with some information with getting vault 2013 onto MS Excel & MS Word 2016?

As far as I know, this isn't possible. First off, if you are licensed properly with Autodesk, you wouldn't be able to use a version of Vault prior to 2015 since Autodesk only supports the current version and four versions back. Also, I don't think Autodesk ever made an add-in for Vault 2013 that would work with MS Office 2016 as 2016 wasn't available then.
