Uninstall the existing MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT SQL Server instance.

Win 7 Pro 64 bit, Product Design Suite Ultimate 2017, local install

Am trying to re-install Vault Basic 2017 Server. I was forced to do a Windows system restore after doing a large Windows Update - computer could not handle all the updates and began acting very strangely, lost printers, Windows Internet Explorer lost functionality, began to get warnings about out of date ActiveX controls, etc. etc.) Upon restore, I found that the Vault Server SQL database was hosed. I uninstalled (from Control Panel) the Vault Server, then tried to reinstall. The installer returned the following error:

SERVER INSTALL ERROR.jpg

When I click on the blue hyperlink it brings me to this page:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2017/ENU/Vault-Install/files/G...

As near as I can tell, my condition is Condition 7:

Condition 7 If the installer found a Microsoft SQL Server database instance named AUTODESKVAULT, but the database has an unsupported (case-sensitive) collation, then perform these steps:

  • Cancel the installation.
  • Uninstall the existing MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT SQL Server instance.
  • Start this installation again.

In Control Panel / Programs and Features, I can find nothing that says anything about MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT SQL to uninstall, even though I have the "Show hidden files" and "Show system files" options activated in folder options. When I do a search for MSSQL I get this:

MSSQL Search.JPG

The Vault Basic 2017 and several earlier versions of the client are still installed.

So how do I "Uninstall the existing MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT SQL Server instance" ??

Thank you.

PS -

Nor are there any listings for SQL Server or MSSQL under Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Component Services/Services (Local).

Before I can suggest anything do you have a valid backup of your Vault data?  Assuming you have a valid vault backup I would try a repair operation before deleting anything.

Hi

the error message not only complains about an existing SQL database but also about an existing filestore

check C:\programdata\Autodesk\Vaultserver for a "FileStore" folder.

Remove or rename this folder and start the install again

Found a solution:

  • Back up and then remove the files from the following locations:

o   C:\Program Files (x86)\ \Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.AUTODESKVAULT\MSSQL\DATA Note: This location is for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express or higher. Database folders are named MSSQL.1, MSSQL.2, and so on. See the Microsoft SQL Server Help for determining which folder contains the Autodesk Vault database.

o    C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\VaultServer\Filestore

Note: Windows hides these directories by default. Enable "Show Hidden Files and Folders" in Windows Explorer if you have trouble locating these files.

Check the program files folder for the instance of the Autodesk SQL database. Then check the ProgramData folder for the file store and delete both.
