Hello people.

We are looking into clean up and be more effective in our departments filehandling. we dont do much designing in CAD

but are storing quite a bit of documents of many kinds for future troubleshootings and whatnot.  such as electrical documents both in PDF and software outside of the autodesk family, plc projects and simple excel sheets

so my question is fairly simple. can you handle any type of files in the vault. to do a more or less "replacement" of having a backup server in the explorer.

@Kristoffer_nilsson_2

Welcome to the forum!  Here is a class from Autodesk University 2018 that walks through all of the different kinds of Vault and what they do.  It might help to answer some of these questions for you.

Keep in mind, Vault doesn't care what you store in it, it will track it.

Vault Basic offers just version control, whereas Vault Pro offers version and revision control, plus a lot of other options you may be able to use as well.

There is a Vault Add-In for Windows applications. Thus in apps like Word, Excel, etc. you'll have a Vault ribbon menu with all the vault commands you will typically need. For applications without the add-in, such as PDFs, you'll need to drag and drop them into Vault.

@CGBenner , Vault Workgroup isn't still offered by Adesk is it? That would be a perfect fit here.

Vault basic requires subscription license of certain products

Since you don’t do design work not quite sure why you would need Autodesk

Vault workgroup was discontinued

i dont necceseraliy do design work but an affiliated department does. and we have to handle the information we get from them and from suppliers with machine documentation. today that department uses another web based software. that in my and many of my collegues opinion are not good.

that's why i asked. i dont want to lobby for this solution in the right instances to then see that it doesnt work with

some files. but i got that answer from another.

thank you for the answer anyway. 🙂

thank you that pretty much covers it, as long as it is possible to store all kind of files. and in some cases even have the compability with having add ins in certain softwares. thats great. i will continue to explore this option

thank you for taking the time answering

Maybe have also a look at Autodesk DOCS and Autodesks Construction Cloud software. it is also web based, and can manage different kind of documents. Based on your post, I don't think Vault is the software you need.
