Running Vault basic 2018 on 1 computer, 1 user

Hi all

I am wanting to test vault to see how it works.

I would like to run it side by side with drawings that will not be in vault.

Basically I will  create a copy of the non vault drawing (maybe with an appendix

to differentiate it) and check it into vault.

This will all be on 1 computer, maybe using a different directory for the vault testing,

with one user (ie myself)

I have installed Vault basic 2018, but that is as far as I have got.

I can't get any further. It keeps coming up with message

"Vault Basic could not find the Data Management Services on localhost"

What does this mean? How do I get my first drawings logged into vault

I have installed the vault basic that comes free with the software.

I will give you details tonight when I am at home.

I am doing this at home and I do not have it here at work.

I guess you did not install the Vault Basic server.
Depending on the type of product, run set up and then go to tools. Or download the Vault server install files.
Remember to have the server en client at the same version and update.

I have installed Autodesk Vault Basic from the Autodesk Data Management (see attached jpeg)

Is this the Vault Server Basic you are talking about.

If so I have installed it and I still get error messages I have indicated earlier

If not, what is it, and where do I find it?

You will need to get Vault Basic Server as well for the Vault system to work.  See this link to show where to obtain Vault Server within your Autodesk Account :https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/vault-forum/how-to-download-vault-basic/td-p/7475185

The Client connects to Vault Server (where the files and data is stored) and without the server you will get the errors you are seeing.  Here is a web link giving the overview of the Architecture and how to get started : https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/getting-started/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018/...

Please take a look at these links and let me know if you need more help.

Thanks All

I haven't managed to get this to work yet.

See attached screenshots for what I attempted to do,

in the end still couldn't log in, as administrator

because I didn't have a password and didn't know how to do it.

It seems very complicated.

For now I am giving up.

I will give itanother try some other time.

Thanks Jason
I would be interested, that would be 6 pm here and I would be at home.
How would that work? What phone number do you need? My land line here at home?
I am not on fibre but on an adsl telephone line.
The screen shots I posted were from my laptop where I tried with Inventor 2017,
and on my desktop with Inventor 2018
I have 2017 & 2018 loaded on both my laptop and desktop at home.
Which one would we link up to? laptop or desktop?
Sorry for all these questions, I am pretty new to this sort of thing
Regards
Mike

Hi @MikeKovacik4928,

It was a please speaking with you. I am glad we were able to get the Vault Server to run. The software was crashing because the SQL Server was not running. Once we get SQL Service to run we were able to open the ADMS Console and make a new Vault.

Vault logs:

Error: The connection to the database has been broken. Reattempting operation.
Exception: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Can't get past this step.

11) In the Vault Log in dialogue box, select the newly created Vault database

See attached PDF, the vault log in box does not show the newly creaed Vault database

Hi @MikeKovacik4928,

Thank you for the update. I understand you are on step 11 - setting up a Single Inventor Vault Project File

What is the error you get when you Select "Vault", then "OK"?

Leaving the hostname as localhost is fine as the Vault Server is installed on the computer.

Make sure you can still log into the Vault Server using the Vault Client, this will help narrow down that the issue only happens with the Inventor Vault add-in.

Regards,

Jason
