"Vault was unable to find the project file... matching to the current project file in inventor."

I'm getting the above error message in vault and I'm out of troubleshooting ideas. The project file that is opened in inventor is the correct project file. It's not on Read-only. Any suggestions? Please see the attachments.

There is a second place to set your project file in Vault go to Tools > options

i believe it is the last option down the bottom

I am having the identical issue.  I went as far as to delete my local project file from my working folder and did a 'GET' from vault to replace the original one I had thinking it some how became corrupt.  After doing so I still get the same message.   I have 6 other CAD designers without issues so I know the project file is good and working correctly at least on their workstations.     No Vault settings such as working directory or any other setting should have changed.  

This has caused some issues opening files from Vault and then seeing the double red arrow out of date symbol requiring me to refresh from Vault browser in Inventor.

We are upgrading our CAD and Vault within a week to 2023 so I am hoping this does NOT persist or propagate to that install based on something like a user profile issue.

Inventor and Vault are using the same .ipj and when I open from Vault without checking the files out the attached images below is my result.   The Files are out of sync.  I tried deleting my local project and getting latest from the vault  and that did not solve this issue.  While this was happening on my workstation I have 6 other designers that had none of these issues.  I have been leaning towards the likelihood this is more of a Microsoft Window users profile issue than Autodesk related at this point since it sounds like a windows update is what lunched the vault in the first place.

it would be nice to know what happened here and maybe this can help someone else but I am upgrading my Inventor Vault 2020 to 2023 starting today so its a bit of a moot point now.

1. Close Inventor. Make sure there is not another Inventor instance running in the background.  Use Windows Task Manager to look.

2. When you do a "Get Latest" make sure your files are going where you "think" they are going.  Click the >> to see the local path to the file you are getting.

3. I like to keep this box checked so that I can see where Vault is placing the files.

I uninstalled Vault Pro Client 2020 as we upgraded to 2023 versions of Inventor and Vault.  Once installed and ready to use I was a little shocked to see this same message appear.  I DO have the latest project files from the Vault and the project files are set up correctly as I have several other installs working perfectly.   For whatever reason this issue carried forward to my new install.   Leaning more towards blowing away my windows profile and starting new if I knew there is no quick fix and IF I knew this would even solve it!

At this point I am not optimistic.

Do you have another user profile on your machine that you could test with before "nuking" your profile and creating a new one?  

Unfortunately, that sometimes is the only fix.  Vault is good... but not much can overcome a corrupted Windows profile.  😞

I have another profile setup on a laptop next to my desktop and am getting the same result after further investigation i have at least a couple more designers here suffering the same issue.   I now think this is still more project / Vault related.    My Inventor Project "Project.ipj" is set up with the workspace "E:\Work\Designs"  it is a read write Vault project.  My Vault thinks my working folder is "E:\Work\Designs\Designs\"  so if I perform a GET from Vault it creates the second level designs folder in my existing designs working folder on my local.

In order to try to fix this I deleted the Project file from the vault and Vaulted my Inventor Project file to replace it.  once in the vault however it morphs to recreate this other designs folder again.   I have a meeting without our Tech Support from our reseller to try to solve this hopefully they can come up with a fix.

I did that and they are not.   Performing a Get even though I specified my working folder as E:\Work\Designs the Vault thinks it should create or go to E:\Work\Designs\Designs and it creates a new folder in my working folder and the second conflicting and incorrect .ipj file.

 We have been using the same project file and location for almost 20 years now throughout several versions of Inventor without issue until last week when we had the "object reference not set to and instance of an object"  issue with vault.   After that nothing has worked correctly.   At that time I was on Vault/ Inventor 2020 we, over the weekend, upgraded to 2023 product and i though this would have been taken care of then.  Sadly this issue remained.

My project file on my local drive is at D:\Designs\xxx.ipj.  In Vault, I have my local drive mapped to D:\.  When I do a "Get" for my project file, it stores it locally at D:\Designs\xxx.ipj

Following this same setup, I would think that you need to set your working folder to E:\Work. When you do a Get, your .ipj file will be copied to your E:\Work\Designs. Set the working folder by right-clicking on the "Project Explorer($) node in vault, then >Details, Change.

Thank You Kirk, I actually stumbled onto this virtually by accident and you just confirmed my findings.   I'm not sure how or why this changed in our vault but it had and I only looked at it about 50 times thinking it looked "Normal".  I normally have no business going into any of the vault administrative stuff and the projects were working correctly until late last week.   

I did fix this and wondered if what I did was a fix or a work around or if I will come in tomorrow to it not working again until i see your response  I feel much better.
