PDF batch publish color scheme issue

Hi all,

This post concerns an observed difference between PDF publishing behavior with the job processor and with Inventor. I am therefor not sure which forum to place this post on, my apologies.

Situation:

We usually export our .idw's to PDF through Inventor (export-> PDF). In an effort to optimize this proces, i am looking into the batch publish and Job processor services.

Issue:

The colors on the PDF from the job server and the PDF made manually through Inventor are different, see attached PDF's.

The Job Processor version has darker colors and no gloss/shine/reflection(?).

The manual version is how we prefer it.

For this test, the job processor is running on the same workstation as were we manually made the PDF.

If anyone has ideas, i'd be glad to hear it.

Can you look at the project file to see if you have a specific folder set for the Design Data location?

We do.

The folder options of the project (in the projects manager dialog in inventor) list the following address for Design Data:

\\Vaultserver.xxx.local\Inventor documents\Design Data\

This is most likely the cause of the color difference in the PDF. You can try to test this by copying what is on the share and moving it to the machine running the Job Processor. Then inside of Inventor on the Job Processor machine, set the Inventor Options to this path for the design data. For the Project, set the Design Data folder back to default.

Run the Job Processor to see if the color is correct.

sorry for replying this late, always too busy.

it seems i still didn't manage to fix it.

This is what i did (all on the job server machine):

• copy the "Design Data" folder from our shared location, paste it in the %publicdocuments%\autodesk\inventor 2020\ (overwriting the entire folder)
• open inventor/options/file and set the "Design Data (styles, etc.)" field to %publicdocuments%\autodesk\inventor 2020\Design Data\
• on applying, a dialog appears claiming i need to close and reload the project (so i restarted inventor)
• open Vault, browse to a viable idw, select "Create PDF" (from the context menu)
• Start the job processor application, watch it creating the PDF
• Check through the job queue in Vault if the task completed without error.
• open PDF from Vault
• Compare to PDF created manually through the inventor application
• attempt to convince myself its the same color.

i also tried the same, but instead of copying the design data folder to the local machine, i set the path in inventor to the shared location, same result.

During this entire proces, the project design data folder location has been set to the shared location.

Let me know what step i did wrong, missed or if there might be a different solution (or reset).

Can you send me a copy of this Inventor file and your custom Design Data?

Find attached the part, drawing and the server design data folder. Due to file size limitations i am not able to also include the local design data folder.

The Design Data (server) is the entire design data folder packaged from the Vault server location. This location is also referenced in our project file.

The Design Data (local) is the entire design data folder packaged from the local location "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2020\Design Data". This location is set in the Inventor settings.

Before i tested again, i deleted the local design data folder entirely and copied the server folder into the local variant.

When i opened inventor and set the design data folder (in inv settings) to the local folder as seen in the picture above, it gave a prompt that not al required file were available and if i would like to download them from a source(?). it then promptly downloaded some files from our \\vaultserver.xxx.local location (the server design data folder).

i am not able to reproduce this notification.
