Move vault from network to another

Hello,

I see a lot of nice discussions and solutions how to migrate vault database and file shares within a network/company. Due to a company split we need to export files and database from one company to a new company. Do you have any process or experiences how to handle this?

Kind regards

F

Thanks for your prompt answer. I am not familiar with the system as such yet. As I understand it contains a database and a fileshare. To be able to move the whole content from one company to another company I think there are several steps, I might be wrong.

Does the section "ADMS console and back up the Vault Server.", include both database and files? As I interpret it only contains the database.

I wish install a new server and create a new fileshare at new company and take a copy of the database and fileshare from old company into the new.

Kind regards

@fredrik_ande

According to your first post, you only want to take a portion of the Vault to the other company.

You can restore the backup, including the databases and file store, to another server, then delete the data that the company doesn't need out of Vault.

I strongly recommend you connect with your Autodesk Partner\Reseller to help you with this.

Thanks for your response. To clarify no data should be removed either from the old company to the new.

Initially I thought of following

  • Install application in new company
  • Copy file folder structure from old to new
  • Backup the database in old company
  • Restore the database in new company

After reading this forum I was in doubt so therefor I wonder if there is a process to follow? Do I need to use any other tools/add on?

Kind regards,

F

Then your job is pretty straightforward.

  1. Use the Vault Server (ADMS Console) to perform a backup.
  2. Find out what version and update is installed on the existing system
  3. On a new server install that version of Vault and the update that matches the existing system
  4. Copy the backup to the new server
  5. Restore the backup on the new server using the Vault Server (ADMS Console).

Hello again!

Thank you! Just to verify (for my understanding) that tool include files on file share and the database information needed.

Kind regards,
