Mapping Aggrivation

***post in total frustration***

OK, so yeah, it's been a while (about 7 yrs) since I've had to create and map properties to autofill a title block.

So here I am going through the Help topics Adesk offers as a guide to refresh my old man's memory. But here I am, fighting with the app again because, as I've seen too many times, Adesk's documentation on the process is well...lacking, or outright incorrect.

(Hint Autodesk: Consider farming such out to actual users. We are available and willing to offer)

For example: I'm attempting (and failing) to map the "Latest Approver" from our vault lifecycle to the appropriate field on the drawing. So I go through the steps and get to the mapping menu, select the Entity of "File", but if I do so, the "Provider" field doesn't list Vault, it only lists "Inventor" or "Inventor DWG". Obviously this is due to "File" being selected, correct? The only other option for Entity type is "Item". We don't use Items.

So I select "Inventor" for the Provider, that then offers me to select the Property. That field and it's popup menu is blank. If I select "Import From Vault", it takes me to the Vault menu to navigate to a file....WHAT FILE???! It needs to be mapped to the Lifecycle!!!

What am I missing?

This should NOT be this darn (don't dare spell it with an "m" instead of a "r", it'll cost you 10 years worth of dedication to Adesk.....but I digress) hard.

At this point, I'm going back to the old school way and making it a prompted entry, the very thing we are trying to avoid.

Now for the betting line.....what are the chances I'll find the info I'm looking for soon after I post this?

Everything is fine until Step 13:

Note what's shown on the Adesk page (shown above) versus reality:

 No other options for "Sync" as the Adesk documentation shows and note to the right, no pull down, just the "..." which then brings up the "Related Files" menu you see.

I apologize for your aggravation, but let me see if I can assist.

The first part is recognizing what documentation you are looking at.

While your link looks like it is coming from Inventor Help, it actually is an article written by a product support tech back in the year 2023, which means it applies to Vault 2024 or earlier. You can see this by the top portion under the title.

Here is the link to the article outside of Help. How to add Latest Approver from Vault to Title Block in the Inventor drawing.

Now, when you get down to step 13, in the version of Vault you are using, that option has changed since that article was written.

All you have to do is check the box next to "Synchronize properties and update the selected file types using Job Server". 

The ellipse button allows you to create those file extensions after the properties have been synchronized. If you don't want to create any of those file types, don't check the box next to them.
