Hi everyone,
I'm using Inventor 2021 and ran into an issue. I modeled a project and checked it into the vault on June 16th. Later, I checked it out and worked on it periodically, saving the local copy each time. Today evening, I checked in everything.
However, when I checked it out again to make a correction, all the changes between June 16th and today evening were gone. The old version folder only shows the save from June 16th and tonight when I checked it out. Despite saving everything periodically, my changes are missing.
Does anyone know how I can recover my lost work?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Best,

Hello, I moved this post to the Vault forum, since it could be a Vault issue and not Inventor. This will be a tough one to figure out, one of those situations where someone would almost need to have been watching you work to see what went wrong, and when. Let me ask you this: On you last check in, did you delete the local copies during the check in process?

And the local copy does not reflect the changes that you made before the last check in? What method did you use to check it back out to make the correction? Does the Vault data verify that the files were checked in with the changes you made, all of the check in dates and times are there, and the visualizations are correctly showing your changes?

Hi @CGBenner
I'm not sure what exactly happened. I finished my drawings and exported them to PDF. I used a lot of View representations in my model and drawing.
When I clicked "Check In," a pop-up message said the model needed to be updated. I clicked "Yes," and during the check-in process, all the views started changing. Components from previous versions that I had deleted began reappearing.
When I checked it out again, everything was gone. It looks like my local copy was modified too.

It almost sounds like the model was updated to a previous Vault version somehow, during the check in.
@ihayesjr Does this sound right? Do you have any additional thoughts here? If it sounds more like something that happened on the Inventor side, we can move the post back there and see if anyone else has any suggestions.

Yes, thanks a lot. It looked like while checking in files, the model files were overwritten by previous version, instead of current version. This is the first time I am experiencing something like this.
I didnt understand why the OldVersions folder is showing only two files, that too within a gap of 3 days.. I have saved the file locally numerous time from 16th to 19th.. But it shows the time when file was checked in to Vault.
@CGBenner Appreciate your support!

Thanks,
I am unaware of any prompt Vault would show to tell you that the model or drawing must be updated before check-in. Vault will prompt you to update the properties on check-out, though.
I believe Inventor may be prompting you, possibly for a rebuild, based on what files are in the workspace.
Are you sure you are working in the correct workspace versus the workspace Vault is set for?
For example, Vault is set for "c:\workspace" but you are working from "d:\workspace".
You could have thought you had certain versions of the model in the workspace when you performed a Get from Vault, but you are in a different workspace with older files.
