Hello,

Currently, utilizing Autodesk Vault to manage AutoCAD Plant 3D project files for department 1.

For that we've already created an instance in SQL server and working on with Vault perfectly.

Now we are planning to create another SQL instance for department 2 on the same SQL server which we've been used it for the department 1.

Is this the right way of approach?

Below is agenda what we are trying to achieve:

1. Single SQL server

2. Two SQL instances (department 1 and department 2)

3. Two Vaults in ADMS (department 1 and department 2)

Is there any complication on this?

and if we performed this, can we simply enter the details of Vault name as well as SQL server instance name while creating plant projects based upon department 1 and department 2 users? (please refer attached images for this)

Please kindly check and provide your feedback.

Thank you.

I think you may be wanting to do too much if I understand your ask correctly.

You don't need another SQL instance. You just need to launch the ADMS Server Console and create another Vault for department 2. This is from the Vault side.

For Plant 3D, I don't know if you need another SQL instance. You should ask that question in the Plant 3D Forum.

Hello @ihayesjr ,

Thanks for your reply.

I already planned your suggestion by creating another Vault in ADMS for department 2.

But here in the case, to work with Plant 3D, we must need to create users and assign roles at both sides (Vault and SQL).

So we don't want to add the department 2 users into the previous SQL instance used for department 1.

That's why I am planning to create new SQL instance.

As per your suggestion, I will check with the Plant 3D forum for the same.

Thank you.

hello @ihayesjr ,

I have one more doubt regarding Vault.

Currently there is an existing SQL instance which is utilized with Autodesk Vault.

May I know does Vault can link/connect with only one SQL instance or multiple?

Why means, if we created one more SQL instance on the same SQL server which we've been used for Vault, will that the second SQL instance data also might come during the Vault backup?

Vault only uses one instance. And it only backs up what it needs in that instance. So you will have to backup Plant DB separately.
