How to change Vault database(SQL) IP

Hi,
My SQL DB was moved to a new server today and the Server Name remains the same, but the Server IP has changed.
Now, we are unable to connect to Vault Professional 2017: Server & Client side.

The error is:
"A network related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to the SQL server. The server was not found or not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error 25 - Connection string is not valid)"

We updated the new IP in "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\ADMS Professional 2017\Server\Web\Services\web.config.def" & the registry file - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\PLM\Autodesk Data Management Server 22.0\Install

But no luck.
Please find the below error.

Please help.

Have you looked at the following link? It uses the console app to update the site name.

Hi Drobbie,

Here, in the link they gave the solution for Vault Server name change.

But in my case the IP for the SQL server has changed. i.e. the Vault DB server.

How did you move the DB? Was the entire application moved as well?
Are you sure SQL is running? Check the Administrative Tools-> Services and make sure the MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT instance is running.
The Error 25 message is pretty generic and does not narrow in on what is missing from the connection string.

The DB was moved using VM to VM mirroring.
The whole setup is replicated exactly.

The SQL is running fine.

MS SQL Vault TST DB.PNG

the MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT instance is running in Services

MS SQL Vault TST DB service.PNG

I guess there has to be something done from the Vault Server side to resolve this.

Hi Madhulika_S,

From the Vault server could you try to do an ipconfig /flushdns

Perhaps the Vault server has still the old ip adress stored in his cache for the sql server.

Thanks

Johannes

Can you send me a screen capture of the ADMS console? I'd be interested in seeing what you have listed under the Workgroups section of the console window. Beyond that, I would start with a simple repair on the application.

There is a web.config file created during installation and this contains the connection string to SQL. I am not familiar with its formatting and how the connection is made to SQL so I would not recommend editing the files (not mention Autodesk probably won't support this edit)

Vault - DB IP change error.jpg

I only get this error while trying to open ADMS, nothing after that.

We actually changed the information of the new SQL IP in

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\ADMS Professional 2017\Server\Web\Services\web.config.def"

Please use the dns name in web.config, not web.config.def

Hi Johannes,

The SQL IP information is not there in the web.config file.

Also, the ipconfig /flushdns did not enable to ADMS to work.
Getting the same Error 25 message.

Hi,

What do you see in the web.config for <server value>

<server value=".\AutodeskVault"/> ?

And can you ping this name from the vault server?

If yes, was the screenshot for the sql server mangement studio local?

If yes, please check sql configuration if tcp connections are enabled for remote connections

Hi,

Please find the answers below:

The <server value="QWOKTSQ01-TST\AutodeskVault" /> is the value in web.config
I am able to ping the DB server successfully from the Vault server.
I tried installing MS SQL Management Studio in the Vault Server too, I am able to connect to the DB server's SQL instance.

The screenshot I posted for the SQL management studio was from the SQL server.

Sql configured such that tcp connections are enabled for remote connections

 SQL Properties.PNG

The uninstalled and re-installed Vault Server.
Still no luck.

Hi,

2 guesses:
1.) the tcp listener is not enabled in your sql configuration studio

2.) you have a windows firewall active blocking the port of SQL so it cannot be reached

Thanks

I would suggest you open a support case. The error message is 1000 % a connectivity issue.

Thanks.
I did as you said, but they have asked to create a new server and try to connect Vault and SQL.

which might be a good idea.

But try first repair the vault installation
