How do i release a bunch of files?

I have changed a iam with parts and its idw has been checked over. Now i cant release them.

Its getting really annoying having this forever message that some other file is not released. I know.. i changed it release that one too. How do i set at least admin up to releasing files en masse?

@MatsNorway1 Well, it is a check in the transition to see if the child files are released, but this makes sense.
If the child's files are not released, you might release a drawing within the work files in it. This should not be a best practise.

Until i have a colleague that cares about this or i figure out how to release the child files i will dump releases to get stuff done.

How do i do it?

In the lifecycle definition you go the transition you want to do e.g. WIP > Released and select "Actions"

You uncheck the check that dependant child files are released. --> https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/it-is-possible-to-...

As said, this can be an issue with later versions and / or visualization of files, if you do not release the child files, and the child files are changed it can lead to unexpected results.

e.g. like this one:

Could i just release the child files as well? i have in the past manually gone through and released/selected files for release. I don't remember exactly how it worked. But hopefully i grabbed an iam and selected all sub files and sub iams for release.

I am unsure i have messed with the list in the link. Setting up the engineering release process yes. But not the control details.

In any case this menu should at least allow me to select the relevant files and choose to release them as well. This eternal search for files spread out is like finding a needle in a haystack.

I worked on the iam. Its a small one. I know all related files are ok for release.

This is a pedantic and bureaucratic setup and faaaar from agile. And there is no way to walk through and check files. Now its completely manual and random. It should be a workflow of this check baked into Vault/Inventor

Doing it in a single folder is realistic to do. you select them and hopefully you grabbed all related files. But i also have projects that span different folders (Because i reuse Ex: P41 as much as i can) and then it becomes a massive headache.

My solution has been to copy designs a lot more than i should. There is only one P41 but there is several doors of the same container door. Partly because its only me here and i get file dumps from China. So the same door is two different places because some other minor detail is changed on the larger assembly.

@MatsNorway1 You would need to discuss this with your Administrator. It might not be agile, but it makes sure the right parts get procured and everything is released and everybody confirmed there is no wrong part on it. It is to make sure everything is on the same state.

The best practise is to release the childs as well, absolutley. so you have a state where everything is released and therefore can be produced and if someone needs to change it, it goes back to "Work in Progress".

But it depends on the workflow you have in your company. this can differ for every company, but releasing the whole assembly and drawing to be produced is a best practise.

I still recommend to release all sub components as well

I try to... does not let me. Does the link you provided set that up to release children? i did not understand that the first time reading it.
