Existing folder permissions update

I wanted to ask if anyone knows a way to parse through all existing folders that were created in the past, and apply changes made to permissions recently made. EX: we have thousands of folders that represent individual projects. During the creation of these folders, certain groups were granted permissions; later the groups changed, so when a user of the new group attempts to access the folder, they are denied. Currently, we handle the issues when we are made aware, but it would be helpful if there were a way to "Update permissions" on all folders. I wanted to ask before submitting it to the Ideas board.

@cdbussey

Are the permissions set by Object-based security or State-based security?

State based.

In the context of the description I gave, I don't think this applies. We have over 30k existing project folders, each had permissions applied at the time it was added to Vault, and not all of them are the same. New Vault groups were added later and the permissions were adjusted, but this doesn't go back and correct the existing permissions on the older folders.

You will need to adjust those by changing the lifecycle state on the folder.

That's not an option considering the number of folders in Vault. I can't imagine we're the only ones that have this issue, so I'm wondering if Autodesk support has a tool that they may have built for this. I guess a support ticket is the next step.

Thanks,

Product support does not build these types of tools.

You can create a custom tool using the API or work with your Autodesk Partner.
