Error when Checking In / Out files ( Server Busy ).

All, I've been trying my best to fix this error for the past 3 days to no avail ... I came across a few scenarios similar to the one i'm in but mentioned fixes didn't help.

Version Info:

Autodesk Inventor 10
Autodesk Vault 4 B:10.0.97.0

So far i've :

- Fixed ActiveX/Com related issues on server and clients
- Applied Data_Management_Server_4.0_SP1

This article relates to the problem i'm having, but steps outlined in the solution doesn't fit my scenario.

In some posts i've read, it was advised to check logs - find them below :

## Event Viewer (eventvwr)

Source 1: MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT

SuperSocket info: (SpnRegister) : Error 1355.

Source 2: MSSQL$INVENTORCONTENT

The description for Event ID ( 19011 ) in Source ( MSSQL$INVENTORCONTENT ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: (SpnRegister) : Error 1355.

Hi,

The link you provided can't be opened. Would you please describe the scenario with more details? I think it's very helpful for us to some research according to it.

Thanks,

Lian, apologies for not being clear.

When trying to Check In or Out a part into/from the Vault, after a few seconds a dialog box appears "Server Busy" with options to 'Retry' or 'Switch to'.

Clicking Retry brings up the same dialog box and Switch To brings up the Start Menu ... this keeps happening for a few minutes then a Vault dialog box appears, with Yes / No buttons :

"A problem occurred while attempting to check-out file 'some_name_of_file.iam' from the server. Would you like to continue checking out any remaining files?

The server returned the following information: Unknown Server Error."

Clicking Yes, carries me back to the Server Busy dialog box and No returns me to the drawing.

Regards.

Hi,

Sorry for late reply...

With the additional information you provided, we've done some investigation once again, while the issue you described still can't be reproduced on our side.

Probably there's something wrong with the memory and below are some tips that may help you handle this,

1. Cleaning up the temporary folder
2. Setting 3/GB switch in the boot.ini
3. Removing unnecessary services in the startup

If the issue still bother you, please forward the EVENT LOG files to the Product Support team that's available for you.

Thanks for your patience and hope this helps,

Macro

Again, thank you for the reply Lian ... that didn't solve the problem, but there's a new error along with the old one being Vlog:

Lian,

I might've found a solution, though i'm not sure whether it would have an adverse effect on Vault/Inventor, your input would be appreciated.
As my subsequent post indicates, the last error I was getting (which is relatively new):

Connectivity.Core.Exceptions.SysErrCodes.UnspecifiedSystemException System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

Connectivity.Core.Exceptions.SysErrCodes.UnspecifiedSystemException System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

The fix:

Since a timeout error was hinted I decided to take a look at 'Web.config' located in 'C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Data Management Server 4\Server\Web\Services'.

The timeout values were extended ...

# Default - Web.config:

<database>
[snip]
<migrateTimeoutSecs value="600" />
<defaultSqlTimeoutSecs value="100" />
<longSqlTimeoutSecs value="120" />
<pooling value="true" />
</database>

# Edited - Web.config

[snip]
<migrateTimeoutSecs value="600" />
<defaultSqlTimeoutSecs value="720" />
<longSqlTimeoutSecs value="720" />
<pooling value="true" />
</database>

I hope this helps anyone that faces similar problems.

(I'll check with clients to confirm this works).

Regards.
