Debug dwg files not syncing User Defined Properties

Anonymous

Hi all

Looking for tips on how to debug this problem.

We have been using Vault Professional the last four years. Since day one with User Defined Properties(UDP) bi-directionally synced between Acad Mech/Inventor and Vault. Approx. six months ago I noticed the first time a AutoCAD drawing that didn't synchronize UDPs during check-in. Looking back at historical versions/revisions it had been behaving correct up to that point. Today I estimate that ten out of seven thousand dwg files has this problem.

Tried audit/purge/recover with no luck. Also tried do delete every object in the drawing leaving it only with the DWGProperties being synced, still no luck. Copied the content of the drawing into a fresh drawing and checked it into Vault as a new file, but this file would not sync either.

Highly annoying, so any ideas are welcomed.

Cheers
Tore

Hi,

First of all what version of vault is this? And if possible the build number of client and server: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

There are known issues similar to what you describe in some versions.

Thanks

At present we use 2017 Server Build 22.0.56.0 and 2016 Client Build 21.1.4.0. When I first noticed this problem we where using 2016 Server, but I can't remember the build number.

Hi,

So no properties at all from block are syncing? How many properties are there for reference?

The first thing I would check is whether the server still has the block or the correct block name listed for attribute indexing: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/EN...

If the block is listed and the drawing has the same block name I would check that the mapping is still bidirectional in Vault admin settings. And have you checked the attribute name is the same in the vault mapping?

The reason I ask how many proprieties are mapped, it could be possible the AutoCAD attribute has been mapped to multiple properties.

Thanks

We don't use blocks with attributes. Our Title blocks and Stickers uses fields mapped towards drawing properties.

There is 10 UDPs. Worth mentioning is that we also use some of the default properties like Title and Part Number. For the drawings i question they don't sync either.

Also worth mentioning is that property mapping is almost identical for our Inventor drawings and I have never experienced the same here.

Hi Tore,

I see that is strange as document proprieties are more robust than attributes.

Just to confirm:

This is happening on new files created and also not updating old files?

Are all the properties custom in AutoCAD?

Do the properties exist in the file or are the properties created when edited from Vault?

Have you tried removing ACAD mapping and recreating the property mapping on any of the properties yet?

There is a update for vault client 2016 that address a property writing issue: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autode...

However this issue does describe " Editing or updating a property (with a numeric name) in Autodesk Vault could fail. The value does not change even though the edit operation is successful." and I doubt all your values start as numeric?

Thanks

New drawings with or without properties, no problem as they are configured to 'Create' in Vault.

New drawing, where I copy the content fra the problem drawing, sync fail.

Vault properties are created but with empty values, if I synchronize the values in the drawing files gets wiped. If I change the property in Vault and sync it updates the drawing, but if i later on change the values in the drawing they don't sync during check-in and the next time I sync properties they will reset to Vault values.

Thanks Irvin

The hotfix seems to have solved this issue. I've tested two of the drawings giving us hazzle and both synced now.
