Upon check in how can I automatically assign to both; a catagory and a life cycle.

I created a rule. Looks like it catagorized it. but dont assign to a life cycle.

Life cycle must be attached to the category.

When you check in files you can build a criteria that files with some ending(.dwg; .xls; .iam...) will go directly to

a specific Category cat.jpg

I would also check that the category you are using has a default lifecycle assigned to it.  -Jim

Dan,

Why is my dialog box not same as yours?

I use VC 2012.

I see your first image shows 3 behavious tabs "Lifecycle" "Revision" and "Properties".

In VC2012 I dont have them. All I get is "Properties"

How can I assign automatic Lifecycle upon checkin of inventor files?

Thx

Jim,

Is this possible in VC2012?

Like I mentioned, my dialogboxes are different from what Dan posted in his reply.

So I am thinking these are Vault Profressional Tools.

Right?

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the response.

I am on road right now. But I clearly remember that my VC2012 configure category dialog has only "Properties" tab as posed to 3 tabs from your first image.
I can post it first thing on Monday.

Here is my Screen Shot for Configure Catagories.

Why dont I see tabs for Life Cycle & Revisions (Like it shows in the image from Dan's Post above?

Without these, Cant I make Catorization & automatic life cycle assignment?

Can somebody verify this for me. Does your dialog show tabs? Is there some kind of settings I need to turn on?

Switch to File Categories and try.

Now you are on folders.

Dan,

You are the man !!

Thanks for pointing this out. I was being hasty & It was so frustating.

I am pretty sure apart from just assigning to a catagory and lifecycle, there must be much more we can do on the properties tab.

Do you what other good stuff can be done upon checkin? Can you share?

Thx

Dan, You wont believe it. None of my collegues like Vault. Invariably we have hot discussions aleast once every day.

Since, I showed a little interest, I am the administrator and get a lot of this heat. 😞

Anyways, thanks for the support.

Jokes aside, vault is very powerful.

  • Show them the advanced Find tool where you can save searches as folders.
  • Show them the version management that Vault does alone.
  • How they can pull previous version and work on it.
  • Drawing compare between two versions...and more

Any way my opinion is that if you are the Vault Admin you have the power.

Use it wisely, drafters are easy to find and hire, smart people who can manage data are hard to find.

Regards,

Dan

Dan/C1,

You can use the Autodesk Vault Idea Exchange to report things that will make your Vault experience better.
