I try to assign item from an assembly,
but not all part nor assembly are recognized with the correct category.
some parts nor assembly recognized as document.
please your advice to solve this case.
@Anonymous
Can you verify that these parts are set to the correct category name before assigning the item?

Hi @cbenner
category automatic assigned to the part during first time checked in to vault, depend on numbering scheme or prefix number ( for purchased component ).
there are no parts / assembly with category name "document".
see captured picture below for other example, I try to assign sub-assembly with 'cosmetic' category.. but during assign item the category changed to "document".
the same problem with my content center, not all but many file.
thanks

Hi, sorry for the delay.
I'm not sure if this goes all the way back to 2014 Vault, but go into your Vault settings under behaviors, and look at what rules you have set up for ITEM category assignment. It could be that you need to have a rule for that File category, to make sure it gets set to the correct Item category when the Item is assigned.

Dear @cbenner
i'm sorry too for delay, I've limitted internet access in the weekend.
I think, it just standard vault configuration in the Assign Item Rules.
in the below captured screen, the default item is document.
i think it's related to this setting, and vault can't read the file category for some files.
but I don't know why..
Whenever I see a document type item, it has almost always been promoted from a file that does not have the BOM metadata. Usually this happens when the file is added using a method other than the Add-In.
This also explains why checking the file out and in using Inventor fixes the issue.
We added functionality (in 2018?) to identify files missing the metadata. We also added the ability to add this metadata to Inventor files using job processor.
Hi @bill.schwerin,
What you mean with "using method other than the add-ins"?
I only use Inventor vault add ins to adding file to the vault server.
other methods are not allowed such as direct adding files from Vault client.
I agree with you may the problem is in the metadata.
but how it can happen?
in case i always use Inventor vault add ins to checked inn files to vault.
There are a couple methods for adding the files that would result in missing metadata. Drag and Drop and most of the various import tools are the main ones that I can think of.
You could determine the user that made the latest change to these files and ask them how the file was added.
