Another Example of Vault Revision Table Limitations

Vault 2022 Revision tables used in Inventor IDW files do not show values for a WIP revision.  To the best of my knowledge, it is the only area of an Inventor drawing that is not WYSIWYG.  This makes it very hard for a checker/drafter/reviewer to confirm that the drawing is ready for release.

Autodesk, please do better.

For example, here is a Vault Revision Table before Revision C is Released:

And after Release:  Note how the Date column is not wide enough for a XX/XX/XXXX date value.  Its an easy fix, but why can't anyone see the problem before the file is released?

Maybe the Rev Table data for the WIP Revision could be put in a different color on a non-printing layer until the drawing is pushed through job processor?  That way a checker could see the data, but a printed copy would not imply that the release is complete.

@swalton

I want to understand what you are asking. What are you wanting to see for Revision C, which is not released, in the revision table?

@swalton

Can you also provide an image of how the Revision table is configured?

@ihayesjr

In general, I want to see the data I have entered in my Inventor model iProperties, that are mapped to Vault properties, that will be pushed into the table by the Job Processor.  That way I can correct any errors before the drawing and model are released.  It will help avoid rework to correct mistakes.

Here are the Vault Rev Table Settings.

Will changing the Populate dropdowns on the Content Tab allow us to correct errors after release?  If so, that will help us correct errors after they are Released using a Quick-Change state workflow.  It still would be better to see a preview of the Job Processor results to correct issues before making the Lifecycle change to Released.

You need to uncheck these boxes.

With these checked, the revision table will only show information once the drawing is released.

Nice!  We missed those settings when we configured our Rev Table.

To get our system to work:

  1. We unchecked everything but the Eng Approved By and the Date properties.
  2. We forced a property update on Lifecycle changes from Drafting to Review (two states we use to track progress).  The Job Processor has to work on the drawing file to update the Rev table.

Result:

Drawings in Review state show the Rev Description, Engineer, and Drawn By properties.  Our checkers can verify those fields before moving the prints to Released.  When the drawing is moved to Released, the Eng Approved By and Date fields are populated by Job Processor.
