Vault Data Standard and numbers reservation

Hi all

I read on the knowledge base that there is a way to "configure Data Standard to reserve a number range for parts"...

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU...

This is a feature that we are really interrested in, however I couldn't find how to access it.

Could someone help me with this?

Thanks in advance

Hi, the article you mentioned uses a customized version of Data Standard. So, although this is absolutely feasible, it's not so simple to explain in few sentences.

Via the Vault API you can generate a range of numbers. Such numbers are so called "reserved", in the sense that the number generator will never propose such numbers again. However, you can save files with such numbers.

So, in the Data Standard dialog you may write some custom code that will ask Vault to generate a set of numbers. Such numbers can then be stored in a local storage, like a file, or a central database, or the like. You can then make use of such numbers as you prefer.

If you can articulate better the use case you are trying to pursue, i might come up with a better answer.

in the meantime i can try to find the person that wrote such article and see if they can share the code.

again, we use such functionality in several projects, but the behavior changes based on the requirement.

ciao, marco

Hi,

we are sharing a pre-configured environment with channel partners in EMEA. The mentioned function and dialog is ready to use and part of the current configuration available in English and German language; other languages are in preparation. Reach out to your Autodesk reseller to get access to it. In case of doubt your VAR contact person can reach out to me.

Regards,

Markus

Thanks Marco and Markus for your replies.

Sorry for being so long to answer but I'm currently working on a big project which consumes most of my time...

I got the sample code from the partner channel 🙂 I know have to try it in v.2015 (if ever I manage to find some spare hours before 2016!)...

Hi,

you need to use 2015 R2 as a minimum: we are using the number scheme control, introduced in VDS 2015 R2.

Best Regards,

Markus
