Numbering scheme based on Item Category

When creating a new Item in Vault, I'm asked to chose which Category it is supposed to be.

Is it possible to set up a rule that selects a specific numbering scheme base to the choice of category?

The category definition does not have an option to bind a numbering scheme. This would be an enhancement proposal to be voted on in the idea station.
Programmatically, you can update the numbering scheme and number consumed during item creation.
