Warning when opening files without checking out

Hi,

when you open data in the CAD Plugin without checking it out, no information comes up, that it is in "read only" state. It would be helpful for users if a warning came up like: "Caution the item is not checked out - any changes you do might be lost".

The current behavior, that you can check out the files any time you want is like it should be. But still a warning would be helpful. For better understanding I have attached a video.

Hi @szczepan.balawender,

Thank you for your feedback! Would you mind posting this to the Upchain Ideas board?

The Ideas board is the best place to get product team visibility into your feedback.

Thanks again, and all the best,

Steve

Does your setup not set the files to readonly in this case such that you get a warning that you'll need to save under a new name when you try to save the file locally? We run with Solidworks and opening a file without checking out will open the file in readonly mode, which is displayed next to the filename in the title bar and then you can't save it without getting a pop up asking for a new filename.

I would probably rather not get a pop up every time I open a readonly file that I just want to look at or use in an assembly. Clicking to close it every time would get annoying really quickly.

Hi @imckenzieY7CGY ,

thanks for your feedback. The idea came up from a customer, and I know the described behavior from other solutions like Vault or Teamcenter, so I am used to this. But you are right, in Solidworks and in Inventor it is clear if your file is read only or not. In Inventor you already get a warning, when you start editing the file, so there are no excuses for users, if they forget to check out the file.

An extra warning might be annoying.

So @stephen.trochimchuk please don't consider it further. The current behavior is good as it is.
