Dear Upchain community,
At my old company, we used a tool called Agile PLM. In Agile, for every mechanical assembly, the BOM was itemized with a clearly numbered sequence (i.e. 1, 2, 3, ...) that corresponded directly with the assembly's drawing. These were what we called "Find Numbers." So for instance, a particular screw might have Find Number 13 (shortened to "FN 13" in our assembly instructions). In the drawing, the screw would have an arrow pointed to it with the number 13. Then in the PLM BOM, I could easily find it simply looking for the 13th item in the BOM, since there was a one-to-one correspondence between the BOM and the Drawing. This is nice because I don't have to refer to things by name.
However in Upchain, all the parts are just listed out without any enumeration. I cannot easily locate a numbered item because there is no numbered list. Even worse, it appears they are also out of order.
Does this property exist in Upchain, and if so, what is it called? How can I import the numbers from a drawing into Upchain so that the BOM and drawing are in sync?
For reference, we are using Solidworks to import our files. Thanks!
Will R.
Hi Will,
I hope this can get you started! You can show a column called "Sequence Number" in the BOM view in Upchain Web. To renumber your items, simply drag-and-drop items in the BOM to an order that makes sense for your company. The Sequence Numbers will then be re-calculated and display updated numbers.
Here is a deeper explanation of Sequence Numbering and how to edit:

Gus

Hi Gus,
Thanks for your quick reply. Definitely that answers part of my question, that is, Sequence Number is the same thing as Find Number in Upchain. Good to know that these fields can be manually updated.
I'm wondering about how these fields are updated when importing an Assembly from Solidworks. Are the sequence numbers updated automatically based on their numbering in the CAD file? Or do these need to be manually edited for each new project?
Best,
Will R.
