is it possible to generate a custom BOM report in a flat structure? for example I have used the same bolt in several assemblies, now I want to now how many of these bolts are in the whole machine. like a flat bom structure.

I've asked a few people and they've said Jaspersoft is quite tricky to work with and probably not worth your time to figure out how to make it work for this request. Instead, I'd suggest exporting the BOM to Excel and using the tools within Excel to calculate the sums you need. You can either export from the web app or use the Excel plugin. Hope that helps.
