Install Error 1603

Good afternoon,

Last Friday my computer had a major failure. After it was fixed, we installed AutoCad Mechanical 2025. We ran into the Add-in programe we use currently does not work with 2025. We attempted to install 2024 but got an error during the install. "Install Failed - Error 1603. Fatal error during install". We uninstalled 2025 hoping we could then load 2024. It did not work. We uninstalled the Add-in. Rebooted the computer and tried again. Again, the same error pops up. We currently are stuck.

Any advice on how to fix this?

Hi @david_quist

Thanks a lot for posting your question to the forums!  There could be several causes a,s listed below.

  • Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service is not running or not running properly due to permissions.
  • Windows Installer issue.
  • Visual C++ redistributable is corrupt.
  • Microsoft .Net framework failed to install or was corrupted.
  • Corrupted installation of the program.
  • Corrupted installation of a product update.
  • Corrupted residual component installed.
  • Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service is set to run as "This account" in Windows Services.
  • Conflict with security software.

Solution:

Follow one or more of the following solutions to solve the issue:

Update the Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service and the Autodesk Identity Component.

  1. Download and install the latest update for:
  2. Try again to start your product.

Uninstall and Reinstall the Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service

  1. Uninstall Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service.
  2. Download and install the latest Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service.

Restart or check if the Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service is running

See How to check the status of Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service

Uninstall and reinstall AdODIS

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdODIS\V1.
  2. Right-click RemoveODIS.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  3. Download the latest version of ODIS.
  4. Run AdODIS-installer.exe.

Uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable

See How to remove and reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables packages

Security software conflict

Configuring the settings of, disabling, or uninstalling security software may be required. Refer to: Autodesk Licensing Service: Known Conflicting Applications.

Remove previous corrupted installation

  • Remove with Microsoft Troubleshooter (also known as Fix-It) old residual leftover installation for the software that you are trying to install.
  • Check the Registry for any potential leftover installation for the software you are trying to install and remove it manually (Note. Be careful with the Windows Registry. If you are not an expert, ask your Admin to perform this step!).

Clean uninstall and reinstall

  1. Perform a Clean Uninstall, see How to perform a Clean Uninstall of Autodesk products on Windows.
  2. Reinstall the product.

Thankyou for your helping. It had been decided that the install somehow was corrupt, or had been corrupted somehow. As this PC had just been fixed, new board and hard dive, It was easy to run it back to before the attempt. After doing that, AutoCAD 2024 loaded and is working well now.

I appreciated the replies. Thank you very much.

Have a great day.

Non-Worked! Am I missing something it use to be so easy to download your software. It was just a push button, now you have to be a computer scientist. 😂

What did you try? What exactly did not work?

What is your exact error message?

What is your OS version?

Which software are you trying to install?

Something happened during the down load of 2025 that would not allow 2024 to also be downloaded. had decided to just go with 2025 until an add-on program wouldn't work with 2025. They said they are working on it. When I tried to go back to 2024 it would not install in. It kept crashing. As this PC was just repaired from that cloud strike thing, our IT decided to just start over. there wasn't anything to lose. That worked well. I am back on 2024 and will update to 2025 when the add-on program is also updated to 2025.
