Connections Highlight – Batch Create-Update-Modify Connections

A couple of months ago, we posted the Streams Highlight – Assigning the Host of Streams in Bulk Just Got Easier! Forum. But what happens if there is a change to a multiple of those Connections? Events such as IoT device upgrades that require hardware or asset be replaced, naming conventions changed, or there is a remodel or build to the facility. These types of events could require updates to multiple existing Connections in Tandem. Thankfully, this does not have to be done manually, because we have the workflow to bulk update and modify existing Connections. This workflow is similar to the one in the previously mentioned forum.

  1. Open the Streams panel for the facility > More Actions > Import/Export Connections

  2. Click “Export Connections in the Import/Export Connections dialogue box. Once downloaded, the file can be found in the downloads folder titled connections_export.csv

  3. Edit the necessary fields except for HostModelID, HostElementID, facility, fullId, and ingestionUrl. Editing these fields will break connections. If new connections are being added to the facility, such as for an expansion, that can also be done at this step.
  4. Once you have made all the edits in the Excel file, save it and navigate back to Tandem.
  5. Open the Import/Export Dialogue box from step two and import the updated file to Tandem.
  6. The Streams panel will refresh, but the Connections will now be updated with the most recent information.
